Mark 5:36

Overhearing what they said, Jesus told him, "Don't be afraid; just believe."

Explanation

The Greek for "Overhearing" is "Parakouō" (παρακούω). It means to hear alongside, or to actively refuse to listen; to ignore. When Jesus overheard, He did not placate or let their unbelief rule, but challenged them to believe!

Inspiration

What noise is overwhelming you? Are there oppressive voices you need to shut out? You can hear words of opposition, but let us not give them power.

Application for Today

  • Do not let yourself be incapacitated by the words of others. Speak faith and hope over them and let God's voice be the loudest.

Prayer

Father God, Help me to not crumble under the negative words of others, but to overcome their negativity with faith and hope in you. In Jesus' name, amen.
