Bible Verse Of The Day:

Not Fear

2 Timothy 1:7 (ESV)

for God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Meaning

Marshall and Towner write that 'the power in question is not so much the ability to do mighty deeds or miraculous signs but rather something akin to courage, the quality needed most by people who are timid'.This verse comes in the context of boldness in faith. The truth is that situations might make us fearful, but in that fear we can find power and strength in the Spirit of God. We need not be timid when we can rely on the power of God.

Reflection

This is not just a general power for confidence, but to be confident in standing firm in our faith and witness for Jesus. Where have you been timid in sharing your faith? Have you hidden it like a light under a bowl, or is it time to think of ways to boldly and fairly share your faith in Jesus?

Application

  • Today, name-drop Jesus. When somebody asks you how it's going or what you have been up to, slip into conversation the name of Jesus. 'How are you' is responded with 'This week is tough, but I've been praying through the words of Jesus'.

Prayer

Father God,Help me to be bold in my faith. Would you fill me with your Holy Spirit and empower me to be filled with a spirit of power, love and self-control, lifting up Jesus in all thing. In your mighty name, Amen.

Why Read A Bible Verse Every Day?

How To Use Today’s Verse

Pause in your day and sit with the test. Read slowly and allow yourself to pore over each word. Take a moment to reflect briefly on the daily Bible verse. What do you think it means, and what meaning might it have for you? Finally, breathe in, focus and respond in prayer. Give a final moment to turn your thoughts and reflection on the verse into a prayer.
