Zephaniah 3:17

The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice over you with singing."

Explanation

The Hebrew word for "Quiet" is "Charash" (讞指专址砖讈). It's a wonderful word meaning to be silent, to calm or pacify. In the NIV the use 'no longer rebuke', but it's really more like the soothing words from a parent to a child who thought they were in trouble.

Inspiration

Have you ever felt isolated? Are you feeling the effects of shame? God's not in the business of shame, but of soothing.

Application for Today

  • It's time to stop holding yourself prisoner. God is not an angry punisher waving a stick. He is a loving Father wishing to soothe you. Allow yourself to embrace God as a soothing Father.

Prayer

Father God, I thank you that you are not distant and angry. You are near and ready to soothe like a loving Father. May your presence bring me peace. In Jesus' name. Amen.
