Jeremiah 17:8

They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit."

Explanation

The Hebrew word for 'no worries' (or anxiety in some translations) is Da'ag (דָּאַג). It means to be sorrowful, or deeply concerned. This is not a state of being trouble free, but it does speak of not having worries that will derail or uproot us.

Inspiration

How big are your worries? Do they feel larger than they should? God's covering makes us like a strong tree. It still get's battered by the wind, but it's roots go so deep that there is no fear of toppling over.

Application for Today

  • Come to the Lord in your worries and recognise that they may hit us, but the won't break us. Recognise your anxiety, but remind yourself that it will not win. It will pass and you will be left standing.

Prayer

Father God, May I be rooted in you. Your presence is bigger than my problem. Although its stil la problem, you are able to keep me grounded while I face it. In Jesus' name, Amen.
