Matthew 6:27

Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life?

Explanation

Lifespan is the more particular meaning from the Greek "Hēlikia" (ἡλικία). It's span of life, a measure of full maturity, or physical stature. And worry will add nothing to it! Yet, we spend some much energy on worry.

Inspiration

Is worry becoming an obsession? Are you losing time in the day to worry? Our worries are often future focussed, yet they rob us of peace, and in some cases, years of life!

Application for Today

  • This might seem counter-intuitive, but let yourself worry. Just for 5-10 minutes. Allow all those feelings to wash over you and recognise that they have no power. Allow them to be utterly exhausted and then thank God that worries won't win the day!

Prayer

Father God, I thank you that you are bigger than my worry. I know I can't extend my life, but I want to learn confidence in your peace and not allow my worries to be the focus. In Jesus' name, Amen.
