Psalm 94:19
When the cares of my heart are many, your consolations cheer my soul.
Explanation
The word for "Cares" in this verse is the emotive "Sarappim" (שַׂרְעַפִּים). It's an unsettled thought that multiplies and goes down rabbits holes of worry. One worry turns into another which turns into another. When we are in this rut of worry, the Lord is close and can comfort our souls.
Inspiration
Have you ever had worries that multiply? One worry leads to another, like falling down a rabbit hole of anxiety. Notice this verse does not remove worry, but it depicts God as distracting our souls with something cheery. Where might you need the cheer of the Lord in your life today?
Application for Today
- For every worry, remind yourself of God's promises or character. For example, if you start to worry about a difficult conversation, remind yourself that God grants wisdom to those who ask for it.
Prayer
Father God, I thank you that your are with me in my worries. Your goodness is a distraction for my worry. Lord, remind me of all the good things you bring and cheer my soul. In Jesus' name, Amen.
