For God gave us a spirit not of fear but of power and love and self-control.

Explanation

The greek for "self-control" is 'sōphronismos' (σωφρονισμός). It refers to a mind that is "delivered from panic." It’s the ability to think clearly when everyone else is reacting emotionally. Self-control is something God given. We can invite Him to help us cultivate a mind, free from panic.

Inspiration

What would it mean to allow our thinking to overtake our feelings? What if we could ask for God's help in growing in the spirit of power, love and self-control.

Application for Today

Being today in an open posture of prayer and acceptance. Invite the Lord to work in you to strengthen your inner person. May you be a person who's minds is delivered from panic as you rely on God.

Father God,Create in me a spirit that overcomes fear with power, confidence and self-control. Create in me a pure and clear mind, free from panic and secure in you.In Jesus' name, Amen.
