1 Peter 5:6-7
Humble yourselves, therefore, under the mighty hand of God so that at the proper time he may exalt you, 7 casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
(Translation: ESV)
Explanation
We often read verse 7 and ignore verse 6. This is not a promise of removed anxiety in the general sense, but a reassurance of God's grace in the middle of anxious battles in the night of our souls. We are promised that He cares for us, even though we may feel anxious.
Inspiration
Where in life do you feel anxious right now? What might it do to pray a prayer of reassurance? Perhaps the circumstance may not change, but your emotions may be humbled before God, and in that a difference might be made.
Application for Today
- Recite the words in 1 Peter 5:6-7 and turn them into a declaration to your soul. Rephrase it in the personal sense and see how God may change your perspective.
Prayer
Father God,I humble myself under your might hand. I know that you can lift and exalt me. I lay my anxieties on you and I know you care for me. Help me to walk in your peace today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
