Proverbs 12:25

Anxiety in a [person's] heart weighs [them] down, but a good word makes [them] glad.

Explanation

The word "Anxiety" comes in many forms throughout scripture. The translation for this Proverb is De'agah (דְּאָגָה) which is more of a worrisome care or fearful anticipation of the future. The worry of what might be.

Inspiration

Someone once said that the majority of what we worry about never comes to pass. That does not stop us worrying. Instead, what if we were to redirect our attention? If 'a good word makes us glad', what good words might be a good distraction for you today?

Application for Today

  • What are three good words you can have to hand that are the opposite of your worries? Remind yourself throughout the day of what they are and use them to encourage others too.

Prayer

Father God, I thank you that your words over me diminish anxiety. Help me to speak words of life and goodness of myself and others. May today be filled with speaking things that make people glad. In Jesus' name, Amen.
