Matthew 6:34
Therefore do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble
(Translation: ESV)
Explanation
kakia (κακία), translated as "trouble." While often meaning "evil," here it refers to the "afflictions" or "burdens" of the day. Jesus' words here are an assertion that we have enough problems to deal with today, tomorrow will come, but right now we need to be present to the moment. We spend too much time worrying about what is yet to take place.
Inspiration
What worries are distracting you today? Are they in or out of your control? Do you have the means to proactively change the things you are worried about or do you need to surrender them to God?
Application for Today
- Write down all the things that you are worried about. Circle the ones that you can chance or affect. The ones that are not circled, surrender them in prayer. The worries you have circled, pray for wisdom in how to address them.
Prayer
Father God, Help me to surrender the things I cannot control and grant me wisdom to address the worries I can. Guide me as I take responsibility, and learn to trust you in my worries. In Jesus' name, Amen.
