Psalm 55:22

Cast your burden on the Lord, and he will sustain you; he will never permit the righteous to be moved.

(Translation: ESV)

Explanation

yehab (יְהָב), is a unique Hebrew word for "burden." It literally refers to "what is given to you" or your "lot in life." What we have in life, if it feels like a burden, is something we hold. It's also something we can give over to God. Not that we become free of burdens, but that He might carry them with us.

Inspiration

Are you carrying your burdens alone? Do you take a 'keep calm and carry on approach'? What would it take to let others in with a new level of honesty about your burdens?

Application for Today

  • Take some steps of honesty today. Choose one or two people who are close to you and be honest with them about your burdens. Don't ask them to solve your problems, but just to be aware.

Prayer

Father God,I thank you that you carry our burden's with us. We do not need to hold it all together and go it alone. Help us to be honest and vulnerable. Help us to recognise that our burdens are moveable. In Jesus' name, Amen.
