Philippians 4:6
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God.
(Translation: ESV)
Explanation
merimnaō (μεριμνάω), the Greek verb "to be anxious." It stems from the root merizō, meaning "to divide." Anxiety, here, is not so much a feeling, but a sense of double mindedness, or split thinking. This is the kind of anxiety stirred by over thinking, second guesses and catastrophising.
Inspiration
Are you feeling unsure around some decisions in life? What might it look like to bring them to the Lord in prayer, before deciding what to do? We often seek our own council, or the advice of Google, but what if we sought God first?
Application for Today
- Anxiety scatters the mind, but prayer gathers it.
- What decisions are set before you, both big and small?
- Write them down and invite God to bring either guidance, peace or wisdom.
Prayer
Father God,Help me to place my trust in you and bring every thought, decision and moment to you in prayer and thankfulness. I want to follow your plan and readjust my plan to reflect your desire for me. Help me to walk in your wisdom. In Jesus' name, Amen.
