Isaiah 26:3

You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you

(Translation: ESV)

Explanation

יֵצֶר (yetzer) is the Hebrew word used here for 'mind'. It means 'impulse' or 'inclination', or in the most basic manner - 'form'. To be stayed on God is not something the Lord does, it's something we do. It is a mind or disposition that is well stayed, or steady. This verse is saying that if we form or shape our mind and our thoughts on God, He keeps us in perfect peace.

Inspiration

What are you focussed on today? Whatever has your attention has you 'stayed'. What are you allowing to live rent free in your head right now?

Application for Today

  • Whatever your distractions, try adding a 'but God' on the end of them. For example, 'I'm really worried about this problem, but God is able to give me wisdom'. Or, 'I am struggling right now, but I know God is with me in the problem'.

Prayer

Father God, Help my mind to be fixed and stayed on you. Help me to see my problem in light of your presence. Help me to put my trust in you as I walk through today. In Jesus' name, Amen.
