John 10:10

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Explanation

The thief is primarily thought of as the Devil, the enemy of God, and more broadly, the instigation of sin in our lives. This verses is what we call a 'contrast' verse. It highlights the position of Jesus against the darkness of sin.

Inspiration

Everything about Jesus is life-giving. This is once of his own purpose statements. 'I came that they may have life'. Sin, regardless of our perceived severity, only ever has death and destruction at its core. Jesus invites us to work towards him, and in doing so we discover life, not death!

Application for Today

What do I need to walk away from that is inching me towards destruction? What is stealing my life? What might it look like to redirect my intent and behaviour towards the life that Jesus has in mind?

Prayer

Lord,Help me to recognise the sin in my life. Give me the power to say no to the things that steal my life. May I know full and abundant life in you!Amen.
