The Great Hand-Off
1 Peter 5:7 (ESV)
Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.
Meaning
epiriptō (ἐπιρίπτω), translated as "casting." Imagine someone launching something with all their might, rather than gently placing it on the floor. It's the same word used in Luke 19:35 where someone throws a garment over a donkey. It is literally transferring the entire weight to someone else.
Reflection
What would it mean to launch all of your anxiety towards God? This is like the shot put of emotion casting. We take something heavy and we, with all our might, throw it onto someone who can carry it.Are your tired of your worries? Let's try and place them on God, He can handle it!
Application
- Stop. Write down what you're feeling right now.
- List all of your anxieties on a piece of paper.
- Screw that paper into a big ball and throw it as far ass you can.
Prayer
Father God,I throw my anxieties upon you. You care for me, you are stronger than me and you know what to do with how I feel. As I throw this paper, would you take my anxieties and carry them for me. I thank you that you care for me.May I remind myself to invite you into my worries daily. In Jesus' name, Amen.
